Are you put to sleep for a tooth extraction?

I will have a tooth extraction. Are you put to sleep for a tooth extraction?

That will be completely your choice. putting to sleep or sedating the patient is needed in case of major surgical extractions or high patient anxiety. If you are comfortable, the extraction can be done under good local anesthesia without putting you to sleep. Just depends what the patient prefers.
Most tooth extraction are completed under local anesthesia. This means that you are fully awake and your tooth will be fully numb. Most patients do very well with extractions under local anesthesia.
Sedation is not needed for every tooth extraction. If you are having a complex surgical extraction then it may be a good option to make the experience less traumatic for you. If the dentist gets you really numb, you'll be fine.
Sometimes.
NO ,not usually if it is considered simple by the dentist who is doing the procedure. Oral surgeons will put patients to sleep for difficult extractions like impacted boney wisdom teeth.
There are different levels of sedation options available for dental procedures. Many dentists can arrange for an anesthesiologist to come in to put you to sleep if that’s what you would like. Make sure you coordinate this with your dentist before your procedure though!
Thanks for your question. For anyone is no fun to have a tooth extracted and could be very scary but the answer is no. There is no need to be sedated or under to have a tooth pulled. Most of the time just local anesthesia will do but for fearful patients, another easy option is provided by any dental office which is nitrous oxide aka laughing gas, which will help the patient to be calm and tolerate the procedure better without losing consciousness.
No, we do not have nitrous in this office. We could possibly subscribe to Valium if you'd like, but generally, it's not needed for nonsurgical extractions.
