Big toes issues?

Hello, I’ve been treated for my two big toes for nail problems ever since I was a kid. I have stress and chew my nails sometimes, however on both feet, my big toes won’t stop having hangnails,. They harden skin on the side to feel like a nail and I was wondering if there’s a way to prevent nail growth for both toes and remove the nails for good? Then replace them with a strong protective device or medication to prevent infection and such. I’m 29 turning 30 this year and I’ve been biting my nails since I was 4 years old. I’m able to chew my toenails off with my flexible legs. I’m trying to break the habit and it’s working, except my big toe on each foot. Can you please help me?

Yes, we can help, and there are options. please seek consultation with my office or local podiatrist. looking forward to helping you.
There is a procedure called a matricectomy were only the side of the toenail that is causing a problem is removed. By cutting out the matrix or root you could prevent the hangnail and still have most of your normal nail.
Yes I do a procedure called a permanent nail removal or matricectomy. Most podiatrists do this.
I am very glad you bring up your issue. It’s far more common than you might think. There are several causes for recurrent hangnails. And indeed there are several ways to treat this problem with great success. I am most happy to evaluate you and customize a treatment that will quickly result in the success you have been seeking.
The nail root/matrix of any toe nail can be permanently made to stop growing with the proper use of phenol. They would take 3 weeks to heal and you would be expected to do Epson salt soaks twice daily with povidine iodine application. Procedure is at least 85% successful.

Yes, there is a procedure available where, either, a portion or the entire nail can be permanently removed. It's done under local anesthesia and usually takes about 2-3 weeks to heal completely. Once healed, a layer of skin develops over the nail bed and hardens to become a normal skin covering. My practice is mobile and we can perform the procedure in your home. Most insurances cover it.

You can have laser vaporization or treatment with phenol to cut the nail straight so the sides will not be hanged.
There is a way to remove the entire toenail or just a portion of the toenail, permanently. It is called a matrixectomy. Any podiatrist can do it in the office. It is a simple surgery that will require some aftercare for a couple weeks. That should do the trick for you. Take care
Yes there is a way to remove the nails completely for you and even not have them grow back.
It is a fairly easy procedure that can be done in the office to remove which ever nail border is causing you discomfort. After removing the nail border the germinal matrix where the nail originates can be cauterized. In my office I use sodium hydroxide which does very well and is well tolerated. This gives you the best chance at stopping the ingrown nail borders and letting the nail grow back normally.
Yes, we can address that issue and correct it permanently.

The toenails can be removed permanently with either a chemical or surgery. It is also possible to remove just a portion of the nail that is in growing. Contact your podiatrist to arrange the surgery. It requires very minimal time off, usually only a few hours.

Most podiatrists do permanent nail procedures (matrixectomies). Quick, relatively painless office procedure.
You may want to have your Big toenails removed. Have the Root destroyed.
Hi,

If ingrown nails are a chronic problem you could have a permanent removal of the ingrown nail borders. This can be done in any podiatry office.
