Blood testing for diseases?

I got my thyroid checked because I'm showing many symptoms of thyroid disease and my mom and sisters both have it. The results came back negative for thyroid, my next theory is type 2 diabetes because I am NOT normal. but what I want to know if they used my blood to test for thyroids could they have already seen if I had type 2 or would they need a different and more specific test. I don't want to make them test me again if the first blood test didn't show anything. Thank you for your time.

A separate test would be necessary to diagnose Type 2 Diabetes. This might include Fasting Blood Glucose, 2 Hr poszprandial glucose, HbA1c and Cpeptide.

It depends what vials for blood they drew and how long ago. When doctors send for blood work, we are ordering specific tests to be run. So if they tested you only for thyroid, you will need a separate blood test for diabetes testing. Sometimes we test for other things but generally discuss that with patient at the time of the blood draw (for example, I may add vitamin D levels or a1C which is diabetes marker) even though my patient came for thyroid evaluation to be complete, but I generally tell my patient I am adding other labs.
I would ask for an A1c, fasting glucose, insulin level and lipid profile.

The diagnosis of diabetes is an elevated fasting sugar at or above 126, any sugar at any time above 300 mg/dl or a HbA1c of 6.5 or above. Prediabetes is a fasting sugar between 100 and 126 mg/dl.
