Can I use whitening toothpaste with braces?

I wear braces and want to use whitening toothpaste. Can I use whitening toothpaste with braces?

Absolutely.
You asked about using whitening paste while wearing braces. You are wise to want to keep your teeth clean. Bacteria have many more places to hide while braces are in place. It takes extra time to carefully clean your teeth. Notice I said clean, not brush. Make small vibrating movements with the brush to work it into all the hiding places. Always be thinking CLEAN. Yes, whitening paste is fine to use. For the best information on cleaning teeth with braces, read the book GROWING A HEALTHY CHILD, SECRETS FROM A WISE OLD DOC.
Thank you for your great question.
I would wait until you have your retainers, which can serve as “whitening trays.” That method will whiten rapidly, and you’ll need to wear retainers anyway. As far as toothpaste, be sure you have 1. The ADA seal on the box and 2. Make sure it has fluoride. You’re more susceptible to decay when you have braces, and the fluoride will help prevent it.
Yes, you can use a whitening toothpaste with your orthodontics in place. The more important thing is to make sure the toothpaste has fluoride. Fighting plaque and preventing cavities is a lot more important to your health than whitening. Most types of toothpaste will do both jobs.

Of course you can but remember if you have bonded brackets , it will not whiten under them .

Thank you

You can use whitening TP with braces even though it won't have access to the areas under your brackets - the impact from whitening TP is not dramatic so it's unlikely that it will be noticeable when your brackets come off. We warn patients not to use the more dramatic whitening materials that would be visible later, but the TP isn't that effective to make a difference.
