Chiropractor Questions Acid reflux

Can a chiropractor help me with my child's GERD?

My child is 3-years-old, and has issues with acid reflux. The doctor has given us some recommendations to help her, but I'm mostly interested in chiropractic care for her. My mother suggested, since it's a great alternative treatment. Do you think a chiropractor could definitely help?

Many times, GERD symptoms can be caused by other conditions that your chiropractor can help with. Hiatal hernias can be repositioned, low stomach acid (can result in the same symptoms as GERD) can be treated with a supplement. An exam followed by a trial course of care from your chiropractor could be a first alternative to drug therapy.
A chiropractor could help; they can use an external technique for pulling the diaphragm down if it is elevated. It is a painless maneuver.
Yes, chiropractic, diet, certain nutritional products, and checking food sensitivity. Several questions such as any relationship to foods she eats, complaints if back pain or breathing problems, which can be spine-related.
It is absolutely worth it to have the child checked by a chiropractor, especially in the middle back and upper neck regions. If they do find a spinal misalignment, it is very easily corrected and is very gentle.

Respectfully,
Since the nervous system is rooted in the spine, and it controls EVERYTHING, YES, chiropractic CAN help with many physiological problems, including GERD.
Hope I helped. Got your back!

Thank you for this question. Obviously, GERD can be associated to many things. One of the things I often look at is the bodies possible allergic reaction to certain foods. A great place to start is by journaling food intake on a daily basis for your 3 year old and their reactions to the foods. Then, it’s possible to be able to ascertain if your child has any food sensitivities. This approach can have a twofold approach as well, and that’s where a chiropractic evaluation can be beneficial. As a chiropractor, we are consistently evaluating a patients spine and how misalignments of the vertebrae of the spine can cause nerve irritation. Basically, the central and peripheral nervous systems (nerves) control the entire functioning of the body. If there is some sort of irritation on those nerves, the systems of the body may not function at 100%.

So, the question remains: how can chiropractic care help reduce the symptoms of GERD?

The nerves that correlate to the esophagus, stomach, etc., reside in the thoracic spine (mid-back area). If, for some reason, there is a vertebral spine misalignment causing nerve irritation in that area, that could mean the body is not able to process the foods correctly, thus possibly creating symptoms of GERD. The only way you could possibly know is by having a chiropractic evaluation and finding out if there is in fact a spinal misalignment. Then, by tracking your child’s diet along with treatments, you may be able to see if there is a benefit.
Chiropractic is very effective with digestive issues including gastric reflux. So, yes it would be wise to take your child to the chiropractor.
Adjusting the spine that directly effects the stomach has proven results for these conditions. In addition the chiropractor may manipulate the stomach and also give nutritional advice.
As an alternative to traditional allopathic medicine, chiropractic care may give your child not just temporary relief but may indeed offer a permanent cure.
If there is any nerve interference to the GI system, yes.
Yes, her problem might be a mild hernia which is totally fixable by the proper chiropractor.
I don't treat young children, but I know some chiropractors specialize in this demographic with good results. It definitely won't hurt your child, so it's worth a shot.
Hi, I’m Dr. Jeff Jenkins, DC, in San Jose, California,

Definitely take your daughter to a chiropractor. If she has a SUBLUXATION in her mid-back, the nerves from T5, 6, 7 innervate the stomach and small intestines for digestion, as a chiropractor, we adjust the spine to relieve these nerves, and it may help her body heal itself from within. I also recommend she start drinking Alkalized water to decrease the acid in her body. You can find out about ALKALIZED WATER AT WATER-REVOLUTION.com/DRJ. My 16- and 17-year-old sons and I are drinking 4-5X the water we used to drink, cleanest, purest water I’ve ever had. It may be very helpful for your daughter.
Chiropractic has been shown to help with GERD, especially in infants and touring toddlers. Each case is different and a trial of care would be best to determine the therapeutic benefit in your specific case. As with any treatment, there is no guarantee that your child will react the same as another. However, with the many benefits and low risks associated with Chiropractic, there is a good chance that your doctor will be able to address the root cause of the reflux and help your little one enjoy life a little bit more.

Best,

Yes I believe Chirooractic to be very effective for juvenile GERD. It can also allow her body to lay a solid foundation for a growth and development.
