Radiologist Questions Abdomen pain

Can a ultrasound find out if there is any growth on my abdomen?

I have been having a sharp pain in my abdomen and I think it’s a growth. I have an appointment with my doctor to look at it. If I get referred, will an ultrasound be able to see it?

Yes. Ultrasound is my favored study for the abdomen if performed well and can detect many masses. It can rule out abnormalities to set your mind at ease. Hopefully they find nothing. Symptoms then may abate when you are reassured that there is nothing. That is a big part of medicinal practice.
Most Tumors involving solid abdominal organs can be detected. Sometimes small Tumors can be obscured by bowel gas. In such cases & in detection of bowel Tumors CT scan is the modality of choice

Possibly but not necessarily. CT would be more accurate if needed.
yes, abdomen and pelvis US
Yes. Either an ultrasound or CT scan are the best initial tests for abdominal masses.
Ultrasound is limited by poor penetration and may not see a mass or growth if it is obscured by overlying bowel gas or is located in a deep tetroperitoneal location. CT scan is a much better test if there is concern for an abdominal or pelvic mass or adenopathy.
Ultrasound can detect abdominal abnormalities and is a useful inexpensive first test, but in obese patients or if no abnormaiity is shown CT with oral and IV contrast will be more useful.
