Can allergy medications cause any side effects for children?

My daughter has a dust allergy. Can allergy medications cause any side effects for children?

Yes, they can. If your child is on an antihistamine such as Benadryl, then they may become drowsy or in unusual cases hyperactive.  Zyrtec can cause nightmares and sleep disturbance in a small percentage of kids nasal sprays such as Flonase can cause nose bleeds. And the medication Montelukast is suspected of causing some mental health concerns in teenagers. Please consult your physician if side effects occur.
