Nephrologist (Kidney Specialist) Questions Dialysis

Can dialysis improve my mother's quality of life?

My mother is 70 years old with multiple health complications including diabetes and hypertension. Her doctor has been suggesting dialysis, but we are concerned if it will improve her quality of life or make it worse. Please help.

All depends on her overall health condition now. If she is frail and has multiple comorbid conditions, dialysis may not improve quality of life.
Yes if your mother doesn’t start dialysis and her kidney is going to failure but dialysis is not going to improve her quality of life only keeping away from complications
Most likely it will help.
Yes
You need to meet with a CKD educator at your local dialysis center. This can be arranged by your Nephrologist. Also a great source of reference is the National Kidney Foundation. Dialysis is not known to harm quality of life. It’s a small time commitment with a big trade off. Your life.
