Adolescent Psychiatrist Questions Psychologist

Can doubling up your Zoloft dose increase your anxiety symptoms and irrational thoughts?

I am on Zoloft for anxiety and because I got worse I doubled the dose from 50mg to 100mg. I feel really on edge right now, my obsessive, irrational, and unwanted thoughts have amplified and I was wondering if they can be side effects. I have been doubling up for 2 days.

Why did you double the prescribed dosage? You need to take it prescribed. Make an appointment with your Dr. And tell him/her what you did so they can help you.
Some people are sensitive to sudden doubling of the dose which leads to elevated anxiety symptoms which are temporary or can cause uncomfortable feelings for a week or so. This can be avoided by increasing dose in 25 mg increments.
This is outside my expertise, but these two links provide you some thoughts about your question:

I would consult with your prescriber. If you are seeing a pdim9 are provider, ask for a psychiatrist. There can be side effects to which a psychiatrist can speak to more in detail.

Hello Madam,

You need to discuss this issue with the Dr. who is prescribing your medicine. Did they advise you to double up? Was that your choice without consulting the Dr. who prescribed it? I am a licensed psychologist and not a psychiatrist so I am not allowed to give my two cents regarding medicine. You need to talk to a psychiatrist or your primary care provider physician regarding issues pertaining to medicines. I can suggest that you read a book called "Anxiety and Phobia Workbook" to help deal with your anxieties. It is by Edmund J. Bourne.  Meditation and progressive muscle relaxation will also reduce your anxieties. In case you are not in therapy with a licensed psychologist/hypnotherapist, I would suggest find one in your area so you can get to the roots and origins of your anxieties and deal with the issues and be on the path of health and wellbeing. In case you are in FL, IN, or IL, you may contact me as I am licensed in these three states.
Take care and remain safe.
