Can ice make a sprained ankle worse?

I sprained my ankle and want to ice it. Can ice make a sprained ankle worse?

No, unless it is directly placed over the ankle for a prolonged period of time.
No, ice will not make an ankle sprain worse. In fact it is VERY appropriate to use ice on an injured ankle for 2-3 days after the injury. Apply ice to the injured area for 20-30 minutes 2-3 times a day.
No it cannot. Ice is used to bring the inflammation down. Do not apply for more than 20 minutes at a time without rest as this could irritate your skin.
Not likely unless overdone.
You can get a frostbite if you leave the ice on for too long a period of time. I recommend you schedule an appointment with a foot and ankle surgeon (podiatrist) for evaluation and treatment options
Not unless you have vascular compromise. Otherwise, Ice is one of the important factors in healing a traumatized body part.
