Massage Therapist Questions Massage Therapy

Can massage therapy treat muscle pain?

I have chronic muscle pains in my hand, and I believe it's from work. Can massage therapy treat it? Even if it's for my hand? (I never really heard of hand massages before)

I would say go get a massage and let your massage therapist know your issues and see if it can help you with muscle pain. You could need to stretching or talking to your doctor about it. There is a massage type called Reflexology and that is for the hands and feet.
Yes hand massage is great. Another wonderful treatment for sore tired hands is paraffin wax dip.
You should ultimately seek out a primary care provider to determine if there is a deeper problem like arthritis or fibromyalgia. Yes, depending on the root cause, massage and more specifically manual lymphatic drainage could provide relief of your symptoms.
Yes, quite a few muscles attach into the hand from the elbow. Most massage therapy will work on releasing the muscle tension, influencing lymph movement and blood flow to the body part of treatment. Therapists might also stretch out muscles that have shortened or “shrunk” from repetitive movements in your lifestyle. The key is to perform opposite movements during the day that counteract your daily lifestyle habits to prevent muscles from permanently shortening. For example if you work at a desk job your elbows, forearms and hands will take on that position even when your not working. In this case it would be very important for this person to consciously perform movements that open your chest and arms like swimming laps.
Hi there!
Thank you for your question. If your hand pain is soft tissue disfunction then yes! Hand massage is great, but you hand pain is most likely not coming from your hand. It's most likely coming from other muscles and repetitive motions. Massage therapy is a great place to start for treating your hand pain.
Yes! Absolutely. Massage would be wonderful for this. As well as cryotherapy.
