Rectal prolapse in children vs adults are two different entities, but both can be managed and fixed.
In Children the management is conservative and primarily directed to diagnosing the underlying condition (ie constipation, cystic fibrosis or parasitic infection). The prolapsed rectum can be reduced manually.
In Adults, rectal prolapse is due to weakness of the pelvic floor and requires surgery.
