Can you get braces with gingivitis?

I have gingivitis and want to get braces. Can you get braces with gingivitis?

You shouldn't is the short answer. Depending on the severity of the gingivitis you have a mild to severe infection in your gums. In that situation, you will most likely have more bone loss due to the inflammation in your gums. But check with your local orthodontist and general dentist to see if the can manage it for the duration of your treatment.
Gingivitis is red and swollen gums that can generally be overcome or resolved with good oral care in a short period of time, and if so, then braces should be fine. However, if gingivitis leads to a more serious condition of periodontal disease, then braces would not be advised, until the condition is under control, and regular follow-up takes place during orthodontic treatment.
