Arthritis, or Degenerative Joint Disease, is a condition of the joints where degeneration has occurred because of injuries, mild and repeatedly over time, or from an abrupt and more severe injury, such as from a Motor Vehicle Accident, or a sports injury. Joint misalignment and restriction in motion can bring on arthritis. Chiropractic can help slow down the onset of further degeneration of the joints, or prevent arthritis from coming on in the first place. Interesting fact: fusion of bones at the joint(s), whether congenital or surgical will bring on arthritis at a faster rate in the joints above and below where the fusion is located. Let's say it is Cervical vertebrae 5 and 6 that are fused together. This is the C5/6 vertebral joint and disc level. We can expect C4/5 and C6/7 to degenerate at a faster pace due to reduced range of motion and mechanics of the respective joints.
