Cold symptoms with a negative covid test?

Both my husband and I have had sore throat, cough, and are not feeling great. Our symptoms are mild. We both received Covid tests that are negative. We did tests on different days at different locations. Do we need to isolate?

Hi, CDC guidelines for covid and isolation only applies if you are having fevers. If you are coughing then you are technically contagious. Most likely you have a viral infection, monitor for symptoms resolutions and also fevers. If you develop fevers then it will likely be bacterial in origin. Wear a mask if you are going to be in a crowd, you will be ok if you are in the house.
Symptoms are compatible with that of a common upper respiratory presumed viral type infection, which may not be secondary to coronavirus. Standard precautions were utilized to prevent spreading any viral particles to others. Isolation is not necessarily mandated with the symptoms. Generalized precautions are recommended with usage of masks in the presence of others.
