Confused,
There are a number of possibilities. Given your age, one of the more likely, is that you are in a stage called "peri-menopause". Menstrual cycles become more or less frequent by at least 7 days. Other symptoms often accompany the irregular bleeding. Hot flashes, night sweats, trouble sleeping are a few of the most reported symptoms. Another cause may be thyroid abnormalities. I advise you to see your gynecologist.
You are probably not menopausal, but it is not uncommon for cycles to become irregular near menopause. Ovulation usually keeps the menses on track. It sounds like a missed ovulation. See what your next several cycles do. They may resume normal for a while.
What is the question? 47 is an age when the perimenopause and sometimes the menopause starts. The period is regular because of ovulation. Its not uncommon to not ovulate some months in the perimenopause, making periods absent or irregular.
