Do cavity fillings weaken teeth?

I am a 29 year old female. I want to know if cavity fillings weaken teeth?

No, fillings remove the decay from the tooth and thus makes the tooth stronger.

The decay weakened the tooth, the filling restores the tooth. The strongest tooth is one that has not been decayed
The answer to that ids not just a straight forward yes or no. Teeth with fillings are weaker than healthy non decayed teeth. What made that tooth weaker the filling? The answer to that is actually the decay. So the filling did not make the tooth weaker it was the decay that made the tooth weaker. Teeth with newer composite restorations are not generally as weak as teeth with older silver type restorations.
It is the decay that weakens the tooth. A “filling” is done to replace the pert ion of the tooth that has been damaged by the decay. Some types of restorations actually add strength back to the tooth. But , the tooth must be restored if there is decay. Otherwise the decay will progress weakening the tooth and eventually cause death of the nerve and loss of the tooth. Once the nerve is dead, then the tooth needs a root canal and crown in order to save it.
The strongest tooth is one that never has decay.
Good question. It’s not the filling that weakens the tooth, it’s the decay which if not removed and replaced would eventually cause severe damage, infection or loss of the tooth. Some decay that is removed might be substantial enough that a tooth may require a crown.
