Do you get antibiotics after hernia surgery?

I will have surgery for my inguinal hernia. Do you get antibiotics after hernia surgery?

You will not. You will get one shot before your surgeon makes the incision and nothing else.
Typically no. There are usually antibiotics administered at the beginning of the procedure.
Hello, Antibiotics are not given after any hernia surgery. Antibiotics are given just before surgery to prevent infection from contamination of the operative field. Giving antibiotics after hernia surgery is known not to prevent infection. In fact giving antibiotics after surgery can make a patient susceptible to unusual infections after surgery. I do not give antibiotics for uncomplicated inguinal hernia surgery.
Typically we only prescribe antibiotics that we give right before the surgery starts and no more antibiotics are needed.
