Orthopedist Questions Fractures

Does a heel bone fracture require a surgery?

I am suffering from a heel bone fracture which occurred due to an accident. Will I require a surgery to correct it?

Not always. Many can be treated with a cast or brace. You need to be evaluated by a Dr. specializing in foot and ankle surgery to outline your options.
Surgery would only be needed if the fracture is displaced or if the non-displaced fracture does not heal after a few months.
A fracture of the heel bone or calcaneus may require surgery to be properly fixed. An assessment with an xray is needed before a surgical recommendation can be made.
Severe ones can, yes.
Only if the joint surfaces have been displaced or damaged.
It depends whether the fracture is displaced or undisplayed.

It depends on the type of fractures; some types need surgery.
Not all the time. It depends on the amount of fragments and if they are in alignment. Surgery could restore the bones
Depends; some do, some don’t. Need X-ray, maybe 3D CT.
Not usually, just immobilization and non-weight bearing, but sometimes does require surgery for ORIF. Depends on the type of fracture.
Many calcaneal fracture’s do not require surgery. It depends on how much displacement there is. You need to get an opinion from an orthopedic surgeon.
Sometimes. Surgery is dependent on the bone that is involved, how much displacement is involved, the condition of the soft tissue, and your medical history. Sometimes these injuries can be treated without surgery.

Not always. If the fracture is in good position with no displacement of the subtalar joint surfaces, then non-surgical treatment is OK. However, no putting weight on it for at least 12 weeks!!

Not all heel fractures require surgery. Some people have very reasonable results with conservative treatment methods.
