The answer depends on location, size and type of cyst, and other patient factors such as obesity or anxiety.
It all depends on the location of the cyst and its size. Some of them could be removed with local anesthesia and IV sedation, but others require general anesthesia. It is hard to generalize, without knowing its location and size.
There are all kinds, sizes, and locations of cysts. So ask the surgeon planning the cyst removal what kind of anesthesia will be needed.
