Absolutely PT can help with shoulder impingement. You should have relief within 2 or 3 months, especially if you do assigned home exercises in addition to the therapy sessions. There are some people that do not respond to therapy. In which case an MRI of the shoulder and a referral to an orthopedic surgeon may be needed. There are numerous manual techniques the physical therapist can do to relieve an impingement and strengthening to promote proper mechanics. Untreated impingement can lead to worsening problems and rotator cuff tears. I would see help before the pain is chronic.
ABSOLUTELY!!! A good physical therapist should be able to address this issue with stretching, strengthening, and modalities. However, it is also important to do your homework (HOME EXERCISE PROGRAM).
The short answer is yes. Shoulder impingent can be due to a variety of things. In young athletes it is commonly due to a muscle imbalance in the shoulder girdle. A physical therapist can identify those imbalances and help to correct them.
