Orthopaedic Surgeon (Pediatric) Questions Sprained ankle

Does wrapping a sprained ankle help it heal faster?

My friend told me to wrap my son's sprained ankle in ACE bandage. Will this help it heal better and faster?

yes
It will help relieve swelling with the compression. It may provide a small amount of support to minimize re-injury.

Yes it will. Protection, Resting, Icing, Compression and Elevation, usually referred with the acronym PRICE, is the best nonoperative approach.

Wrapping an ankle following a sprain helps control the swelling and pain in the first 2-3 days. Although it doesn't speed healing, it improves the symptoms after the injury. Functional bracing is helpful as one returns to sports or similar activities later.
Best of luck.
Ace Wrap will only help control swelling a true ankle brace with supports or velcro locking can help recovery by prevent injury while performing regular walking activities
Following ian ankle sprain generally compression is helpful both to keep the swelling down which allows the ligaments to reattach closer as well as to keep the swelling down so that movement can occur. It also stimulates the nerves to give some protection to the ankle. So in general you want to protect the ankle and one way of doing this is with the compression wrap. So protection is a good piece of advice from your friend. Hope this helps.
