OB-GYN (Obstetrician-Gynecologist) Questions OB-GYN

HIV symptoms?

I had an exposure to HIV on the 12th of June. By Friday the 17th, I began to experience a runny and stuffy nose followed by a sore throat which hurt to swallow, and white spots on my tonsils. Could this be HIV? No one else in my house is sick.

recommend getting tested for hiv p24 antigen test right away
doubt it is hiv because timing is too rapid for it to happen
Yes, your symptoms could be the result of recent HIV infection. HIV can cause a mononucleosis-like illness days to weeks after the initial exposure. Of course tests for streptococcal sore throat and infectious mononucleosis should be done. Blood tests for HIV infection may be negative at such early stages of the infection.
Thanks for the question. That is not HIV. It is either viral or Streptococcus.
