You should revisit with your dentist to let him/her know that you are experiencing jaw pain since wearing your dentures. Oftentimes adjustments need to be made to dentures. Contact your dentist before you do anything. Good Luck!
Thats an interesting question. In general, dentures should not be causing any pain. Your dentist can adjust any sore spots. Think of dentures like any prosthesis. It is replacing missing body parts. It should be functioning in harmony with the orofacial complex, and there should be no pain resulting. Perhaps your dentures are very old and you need to get a new set. Perhaps your dentures are brand new and you need to adjust the bite. Your BreatheSleepDoc, Simi Silver, DDS www.silverdentalcentre.com www.TMJSleepCentre.ca
If your pain is in the jaw joint it could mean that the denture teeth have worn down and you are closing too deep. If the pain is from a sore spot that is rubbing, a simple adjustment may take care of it. There is also a condition where the dental ridge of bone resorbs away and the denture starts to rest too heavily on the nerve that runs along the jaw. Long story short there are several different origins of discomfort possible. Hope this helps. Mary SwiftDallas Laser Dentistrywww.dallascosmeticdentist.us
If you are having jaw pain your denture may not be fitting correctly and need adjusting, or may be inadequate. The dentist, or dental office, that made the dentures for you should be able to help you. A dentist that has experience and training using neuromuscular tecmiques may be best in determining where your denture or bite needs to be adjusted to get rid of your jaw pain. You should not have jaw pain from a good fitting denture.
