How can you tell the difference between Alzheimer's and dementia?

I am a 54 year old male. I want to know can you tell the difference between Alzheimer's and dementia? They seem very similar.

Dementia is just a general term for brain conditions that lead to progressive decline of thinking and functioning abilities.
