“How do you know if you had a possible miscarriage?”
I think I may have had a miscarriage today. What do you think?

It looks like a small blood clot. There is about 20% miscarriage rate with pregnancy, in general. I can’t tell from the picture if it is a miscarriage or not. I would recommend getting some lab done to check your hormone levels for pregnancy. If you are >6 weeks, a sonogram may be helpful.

Get bloodwork drawn a few days apart. This can help see if your pregnancy hormone levels are decreasing. If less than 0.5 (or whatever their laboratory seems negative for pregnancy), it is possible you completed a miscarriage or possibly you were just late for a period and were never pregnant at all!
