To cope with the stress of working with broken families, practice selfcare regularly, seek supervision or peer support, set healthy boundaries, focus on what you can control, and remind yourself of the positive impact you make. Therapy or counseling for yourself can also help manage emotional strain. If you have any further questions or need more clarity, please consult with a psychiatrist. I do not believe that social workers split up broken families. I have been working in the field for over 15 years and I know each individual plays a role in their family. Teaching healthy communication / relationship skills/ practicing empathy and managing stressors will keep families united.
Provide a space for the family to process their feeling and talk. Reassure the children that no one is leaving them. Give them the information they need to know that they will be taken care of.
