The duration of gum swelling around a tooth can vary depending on the underlying cause. Generally, if it's due to minor irritation or injury, it may resolve within a few days with proper oral hygiene and gentle care. However, if the swelling persists for more than a week, or if it's accompanied by pain, redness, or other concerning symptoms, it's advisable to consult a dentist. They can assess the situation, determine the cause, and recommend appropriate treatment to alleviate the swelling and address any underlying issues with your oral health. Go see a dentist. You may have an infection which if not treated could result in tooth loss.
It all depends on the source of the swelling, in this case your best options is to see a Dentist so the can take x-ray evaluate the area and find what is causing the swelling.
There are a lot of reasons for gum swelling from localized gingivitis to a major infection in the tooth. If its from something like a popcorn skin that got stuck, the gum tissues swell and should heal by 2 weeks with salt water rinses and good hygiene. If its from something more severe, the gum tissue will swell up then go away but come back again. I recommend seeing a dentist if the gum swelling doesnt go away soon.
Thank you for the question.

Gum swelling around the tooth can be sign of most often an infection (but not only) either coming from the tooth (advanced decay, failing root canal, fracture) or coming from the gum. Sometimes it can be a symptom of a compromised overall health of the body or reaction to some drugs. Proper diagnosis is a must. How long it will last depends on the cause, severity and the adequate treatment.
