How long does it take to recover from getting a cavity filled?

I am a 24 year old male. I want to know how long does it take to recover from getting a cavity filled?

Usually right away.
Not sure exactly what do you mean by “recover.” Depending of the extent of the damage (size and depth of decay). If you need a small filling, that can be done even without anesthetic, using a laser for example. There is no recovery time at all. If you need a medium size filling you very likely will need anesthetic. The “recovery” will take as long as the time it needs for the numbness to go away. If the damage to the tooth is extensive it may take longer. Some teeth, after having a very deep cavity filled, may need even more treatment, like root canal and a crown, which means that the tooth did not recover at all. A lot of time, if the tooth previously had a metal filling, it may have a longer recovery, even if the filling was not big. Metal tends to cause a small crack in the tooth due to expansion. After having the filling replaced, the tooth may be uncomfortable for a while, until these cracks settle. It is impossible to foresee how long that will take. If your bite is not 100% perfect and it is not corrected asap, the tooth may develop sensitivity to pressure and to cold. As you can imagine, since the dentist is faced with so many different situations, recovery periods are very different and it is hard to answer your general question.

Usually, the sensitivity to temperature lasts for a few days, and up to about a week. Persistent dull ache to chewing or to temperature that lingers may indicate that your tooth may not recover and you may need root canal treatment.
Normally, you don't need any recovery time unless the cavity and resulting filling are deep and close to the pulp of the tooth.
The tooth can be sore for 4-6 weeks after filling. If it feels like you hit it first, please go back to the dentist for adjustment.
Recovery time is immediate from getting a cavity filled. Your mouth will be numb for a couple of hours, but it doesn't put you out of commission at all.
