Recently diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in October last year, already on medication 4 times a day, not big tremors but speech and balance are not great! How fast can it progress?

Hi Respected Patient,

Bulber Parkinson's disease manifests with speech and balance issues. My concern is to rule out Basal ganglionic pathology to demonstrate that it's just neurology degenerative disease we are dealing with here. If it is neurodegenerative type Parkinson's disease, then normal progression will be 2 to 5 year when you will find early complication of Parkinson's disease like falls and aspiration pneumonia. Until then, maintain your quality of life with medication and supportive care.

Every person is different. But typically one would expect your history to dictate the progression. In other words, most progress at the same rate it did the past year assuming you have no other issues that will influence your balance such as diabetes.
