Podiatrist Questions Podiatrist

I have a red line on my toenail?

I think I'm going to die. Do I have cancer? I've had the red line for over 3 years maybe 4. It has not changed and no pain at all.

Hi, please consult a dermatologist or podiatrist for your concern, definitively speaking, a biopsy is needed for evaluation and diagnosis.
I suggest an evaluation with a podiatrist to manage this condition.
Hello,

Any pigmented line in the nail can be concerning and should be evaluated by a doctor. Melanoma is always a differential diagnosis. The fact that it has not changed in 3-4 years is encouraging.
Although cancer on the foot and toes is rare, it cannot be excluded. A red line can be indicative of several benign and potentially malignant conditions. A thorough evaluation by a podiatrist or dermatologist should be performed.

My suggestion is after that long and concern schedule an appointment with a podiatrist and they can get a biopsy to advise you properly. I can’t give a generic non professional answer
A biopsy of the nail bed is indicated.

In my 34 years as a podiatrist, I have never seen the red line in your picture be a cancer! From what I can see, it looks like the nail was trimmed too close to the distal edge of the nail. Apply antibiotic ointment 1x/day for 1 week & see if there are any changes in appearance. If you have a history of skin/nail cancers, I suggest you make an appointment with a dermatologist for further evaluation.
Good luck & Happy Holidays!!!
At first glance, the red line looks like you've cut the nail too short and caused it to bleed at the distal nail fold attachment. But if it has appeared that way for 3 years, you most definitely could have something more serious wrong, and you should have it checked and even biopsied by a professional.
You sure mangle your toenail. I assume the line you mean is the one longitudinal line in the middle. Highly doubtful it is a melanoma. Get it biopsied if you are worried. You are going to die, someday, but not from this.
This may or may not have significance. It may be you had some bleeding underneath the nail. I recommend you make an appointment with your Primary care physician for a physical if you have not had one performed for a while
