Index finger pain?

I’ve been dealing with pain in my right index finger. It’s near the bottom of the finger and goes slightly down to the top of the hand. Feels stiff as well. No lump or bumps so there’s no cyst or tumor. No bruising or discoloration. Maybe slightly swollen but it’s also my dominant hand. No other noticeable symptoms that would indicate an infection or something more serious (fever, weight loss, lack of appetite). Recent routine bloodwork was all normal. I deliver groceries for a living and am in the gym 4-5 times a week. 40 y/o male. Been icing it. I don’t do well with NSAIDs from past ulcer issues. Does feel slightly better after a warm shower. Been going on about a month or 2. Can’t get into the doctor until May. Any thoughts?

Male | 40 years old
Complaint duration: 1-2 months
Medications: Niacin, Tylenol
Conditions: Dairy allergy, past pericarditis

Does not sound like a serious condition. Continue warm soaks and excercising the finger to prevent stiffness and keep your appointment in May.
It's probably just inflammation of the joint at the base of the finger or even inflammation of the nearby tendon. Ibuprofen 600mg 3 times a day with food will help. If you can't take that, then avoid all activities that cause the finger pain. It will probably take several weeks to go away. If it's still there in May, see an orthopedic specialist. An injection or cortisone by mouth should help.

Hope it helps!!

Could be early arthritis. Try over-the-counter voltaren gel.
Hello. If only index finger involved then common issues would be mild arthritis due to activities or tendonitis. This would be common with your work and workout schedule. You should get radiograph to rule out arthritis, calcification etc. Consider removing or altering use of index finger. If not using wt gloves when lifting then try these. See if certain equipment/grip are putting undue pressure on this part of hand. If you are using gloves may be irritating this area. Try contrasting after work/exercise (several minutes of moist heat followed by 5-10 minutes ice. Good luck.
