Geriatrician Questions Parkinson's Disease

Is Parkinson's disease curable?

My mother is 64 years old and has been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. The doctors have given her Levodopa, but I read that this isn't a permanent solution and that there aren't many. Would there be a cure for this disease someday? Do you know if anything is being researched at this moment?

To date Parkinsons Disease has been controllable only without extension of the lifespan. Lately we are seeing some approaches that add to one's life span. There're suggestions that cures might be on the horizon with the new research. But that takes a lot of time. Good luck!
No cure yet, hopes are in the stem cell research, pilot studies are somewhat encouraging.
Sorry to hear. There is a lot of research going on. Unfortunately, at this time, it is a progressive disease. Hopefully, the medication will control her symptoms.
There is not a cure. A neurologist would be the best person to ask into the realistic options for cure in her lifetime. Depending on her type of PD, she might be a candidate for Deep Brain Stim.
