Acupuncture is 100% safe and very effective for back pain. Read more here: https://philaacupuncture.com/natural-treatment-for-lower-back-pain/
Absolutely. Back pain was the very first thing the NIH recommended acupuncture for because it was so effective and had no negative side affects. It is now the very first thing Medicare will pay acupuncture treatments for, as well.
By the way, acupuncture is safe to treat anything!! There is nothing dangerous about it unless you go to someone who has not been properly trained and doesn't have a license from both the national board and the state in which they are practicing. We are highly regulated and highly trained.

If your provider is a nationally board certified and state licensed acupuncturist, yes, acupuncture is usually very safe. If your provider is a PT, chiropractor, or some other provider who did not attend and graduate from an accredited program for Chinese medicine, then maybe/maybe not.
The other thing to keep in mind here is not all acupuncturists will place needles in the local area. In other words - acupuncture can treat back pain without having to place needles in your back.
