General Practitioner Questions Abdominal Surgeon

ā€œIs it gas or appendicitis?ā€

I ate a lot of corn today and bread today for lunch, a heavier amount of starch than I normally consume. I ate around 1pm. I ate again at around 7pm. I made a smoothie consisting of spirulina, cacao, banana, coconut water, and almond butter and a vegan spring roll. I drank water all day too. But then I started feeling these cramps in my lower stomach and right side. It just aches and feels gassy. But then I started worrying it could be appendicitis? Iā€™m not sure and need help figuring it out before I proceed.

Appendicitis usually causes very sharp, right lower quadrant pain. If your pain is not so sharp or severe and it is crampy (comes and goes, varies with food or bowel movement), then it's not appendicitis.
Given your age, symptoms the chances are high within the first 24 hours. If you clinically improve it could have been gas but also a high possibility of a fecolith (hardened piece of feces n the intestine), doubtful for diverticulitis. Please arrange an appointment with your primary care physician for a proper physical examination. Possibly a CT scan if clinically warranted. As always, if you rapidly worsen please seek emergency care. In good health.
