While a single chest CT scan during pregnancy is generally considered safe, it is essential to consult with a healthcare provider to assess the specific risks and benefits in your situation. To learn more, connect with me at drjeromepuryear.com. Thank you!
A CT scan implies a high level of radiation. In general it should be avoided the first and second trimesters of pregnancy unless it is something very urgent. Even during third trimester it should be avoided and alternative imaging studies should be used.
Best to limit any radiation exposure to the fetus during pregnancy especially first trimester. Please consult with the radiologist and your ordering physician to determine the medical necessity of this exam.
