“Is local anesthesia safe for a 4 year old?”
My son will be operated next week for a foot abscess. The doctor said it will be done under local anesthesia; is this safe for a 4 year old?

I do not know what you mean by local. With abscess, local may not work unless he will use spinal, and that is less likely. If I were the anesthesiologist, I would put him to sleep.
Local anesthesia is numbing the area usually with lidocaine. They do not have to be intubated and are breathing on their on. This is usually the safest type of anesthesia.
