I'm unsure what you mean by serious. Any communication disorder can have long term affects on your child's ability to communicate effectively. If you suspect your child has a fluency disorder, I would recommend seeing a speech-language pathologist. Sometimes your local school can help with this.
Yes stuttering can affect a persons emotional, social and professional life. Strategies should be used to develop good self concept and to improve fluency.

Hi! Thanks for reaching out. Stuttering is a neurodiversity, and can impact an individual's quality of life depending on the severity of it and how their close relations and social circle react to it. I would recommend reaching out to your pediatrician or a local Speech Language Pathologist for more information about it. All the best, Kim
Yes and no. If you don't get it treated, your child can have negative emotional and attitude issues that will affect them. It's best to have them tested and treated to avoid long lasting effects.
Only if it causes difficulty for the person who stutters and /or negatively impacts communication. For some it can cause anxiety and social isolation. Consult a speech pathologist
