Is there a surgery for GERD?

I am a 34 year old male and I have GERD. Is there a surgery for GERD?

Yes there is. Used for chronic GERD when not responding to medications.
Yes, the operation is a called a NISSEN FUNDOPLICATION, which can be done laparoscopically as well as open. But I would ONLY consider having this if you fail all the available medications AND you can find a very experienced surgeon who has done a LOT of these procedures successfully. The major negative repercussion of this procedure is that it could result in swallowing difficulties. However, it is now very rare that surgery is ever needed for GERD because the PROTON PUMP INHIBITING DRUGS (like omeprasole, pantoprazole, esomeprazole, etc.) are so effective.
Yes, the surgical options include Nissen fundoplication and LINX procedure.
Yes, there is an option for surgery for poorly controlled GERD. You should contact your primary care or Gastroenterologist to see if you will be a good candidate for it.
