“Is this a late period?”
On Monday I spotted a little bit then it stopped. Thursday I was supposed to start my period. Tonight I had very light pink spotting but thought my period started so I put in a tampon. When I checked the tampon it was a little bit of brown spotting. What could this mean?

The brown spotting is probably old blood. I am not sure if you are on birth control pills or not. I would probably do a pregnancy test to be sure. If negative, I would probably watch the next cycle to see how it goes. If this continues, I would consult your physician.

Sometimes irregular patterns in taking a birth control method can cause it. Occasionally my patients have a cervical or uterine polyp. Bleeding after sex can rarely indicate a cancer or a simple erosive inflamed cervix spot.
