Dentist Questions tooth pain

Is tooth pain normal during pregnancy?

I have severe tooth pain, and I'm also pregnant. Is this a normal part of pregnancy? How can I treat this?

Severe tooth pain is not a normal part of pregnancy. Most likely you had the tooth problem and did not have it taken care of. All women should have a mouth exam and all restoration of all needed work. Being pregnant and having a mouth full of dental problems is not healthy for you or your baby. Pregnancy is a special time for you and your baby. It is unfortunate that all women of child bearing age can't have a mouth exam, home care instructions and all work completed BEFORE pregnancy.
If you are pregnant, your hormones will be raging. Good luck with that! The germs that attack your surrounding bone will be particularly damaging; so flossing and extra professional cleanings are extra important.
Your pediatrician should have recommended that you have a dental check-up early on in your pregnancy to obviate the need for more invasive procedures done later on in trimesters approaching birth when x-rays are not recommended.
