It truly depends on your actual diagnosis. If it seems to be mild and
improves with walking its probably ok. My recommendation would be to see a
Foot and Ankle Doc. and then treat appropriately
I recommend you have your ankle examined by your local podiatrist or orthopedic physician. You could make your ankle pain worse by walking, depending on what is causing your ankle pain.
If you experience sharp or constant pain during or after a walk you probably have ankle synovitis. Steroid injections work well to decrease this inflammatory process and will allow you to keep walking hopefully pain-free. Otherwise you are causing increased inflammation.
Walking can be a good way to exercise and improve the strength and flexibility of the muscles in your ankles. However, if you have ankle pain, it's important to consult a healthcare provider before beginning any new exercise program. They can help determine the cause of your ankle pain and recommend the most appropriate treatment and exercise plan.

If you do have ankle pain and are cleared to walk by a healthcare provider, it's important to start slowly and gradually increase the intensity and duration of your walks. Wearing proper shoes that provide adequate support can also help reduce the strain on your ankles.

It's also important to pay attention to your body and stop exercising if you experience any pain or discomfort. If you experience persistent or severe ankle pain, it's important to seek medical attention as this may be a sign of a more serious underlying condition.
Could be.Depends on what is causing the pain.Need a clear diagnosis
That depends on what is causing your ankle pain. Ankle pain may come from chronic ligament tears/sprains/instability, arthritic changes in the joint, osteochondral defects of the Talus and/or Tibia, or malalignment of the ankle causing chronic changes such as a joint derangement of the ankle.
Ankle pain can result from multiple etiologies and best is to get an X-ray/MRI to find out what is happening. Protected walking, such as a brace or boot might be needed. For more significant injury, walking may not be recommended.
Walking can be good depending on what is the causing the pain. I recommend you make an appointment with a foot and ankle surgeon (podiatrist) for evaluation and diagnosis
