Gastroenterologist Questions Loss of Appetite

My appetite is still a problem inspite of my recovery from jaundice. What should I do?

I had a bout of jaundice 3 months back, but I am on my way to recovery from the disease. However, I still have low appetite issues even though my bilirubin levels are normal now. How long should it take for me to be able to eat better?

That depends on the underlying cause of the jaundice. There may still be liver derangements in the AST, ALT thought the bilirubin is normal. Need to know if there is any chronic liver disease, which could easily cause poor appetite. Beyond this, poor appetite could be the result of countless other conditions so an extensive evaluation may be necessary. Best to discuss with a primary care doctor or liver specialist.
Hi. Complete recovery may take a while in many cases. Jaundice is a sign of liver injury, and even though your bilirubin levels have normalized it does not necessarily mean that your liver has recovered completely. A liver profile is necessary at this time, and you should then be able to discuss the test results with your doctor.
