Adolescent Psychiatrist Questions Demisexual

My daughter threw around the term "demisexual" the other day. What does this mean?

I'm aware of the different sexualities that our children identify themselves as. But I heard my daughter refer to herself as "demisexual" with her friends, and I haven't really heard of it before. What does this mean?

It is a sexual orientation in which person attracted sexually after forming emotional bond first with other person
It can be confusing to navigate these new terms. Online it states “ Demisexuality is a sexual orientation in which a person feels sexually attracted to someone only after they've developed a close emotional bond with them. ”

Hope that helps.

A demisexual is a person who does not experience sexual attraction unless they form a strong emotional connection with someone.
I think she is probably imitating some term she heard on TV or heard someone using it.
The term means half-way between being asexual and sexual and is used to refer to someone who doesn’t have a sexual attraction to either boys or girls unless there is an emotional bond. It’s not an unhealthy way of being for an adolescent.
