Ear-Nose and Throat Doctor (ENT) Questions Nose bleeds

My son has frequent nose bleeds. What should I do?

My son has a nose bleed at least once or twice a week, and this mainly happens during the weather. Right now, we pretty much deal with it because it's a seasonal thing, but there has to be a better way to prevent them from happening in the first place. Is there anything that I can do to prevent his nose bleeds from happening?

No aspirin. No ibuprofen. No nose picking. Have him seen by an ENT for diagnosis and treatment options.
If the nose bleeds are not prolonged hold pressure for 2 minutes. If prolonged you need to get cbc to make sure he is not anemic and that platelets are normal. Also if there is a family history of bleeding easily. Do not let him pick at his nose. Use saline mist to moisten his mucus and blow gently. You can occasionally use afrin if he is congested but not daily. Do not take aspirin or motrin since these make the platelets not work well
