It is a seizure medication and can be used as acute seizure therapy. However, it is not the seizure medication that you were taking. It is unknown as to whether it would be effective or not in aborting or preventing seizure activity for you and what dose would be effective. There is always the risk of adverse medication side effects that should be considered even though this medication has a low side effect profile. Also, as a rule, we do not encourage taking other peoples medications, since it was not prescribed for you and your are depriving them of their medication. With that being said, it is a better option than nothing, since not taking your seizure medication can precipitate meditation withdrawal seizures. Keppra is frequently used in the ER as 1st line therapy in new onset seizures. A typical maintenance dose after loading is 500 mg twice daily. Dr. Collins.
Not safe to use an alternative medicine. Call prescribing doctors office to arrange for a short term prescription. Leon Rosenberg
That is not advised. Medicines can take 5 days to make a certain level.
You can however don’t give your lamictal to your sister as this has to titrated . I believe you are thinking is better to take something rather than having a seizures while off medications and I agree
