“Painful sex and abnormal pap results?”
I went to the doctor regarding pain during and after sex and bleeding after sex. Also, cramping feelings after sex sometimes for a day or more after. She did a pelvic exam, STI tests, and a pap smear. The swab and the STD tests showed no signs of infection. The pap smear results came back abnormal. The pap smear and pelvic exam were so uncomfortable and afterward, I experienced what can be described as the absolute worst cramps of my entire life I almost vomited from the pain. It was only that intense for a few seconds but more mild cramps lasted the entire day. I was not on my period nor about to start it any time soon. What could be wrong? She sent a referral to a physical therapist that works with pelvic pain but I don't think this will result in the core issue.

It is concerning that you had so much pain with the pelvic exam... It is possible you have a pelvic infection, even though your STI cultures were negative. If your pain continues or worsens, you will need a pelvic ultrasound and exam.
