Rectal cancer: risk of damage to sexual function through laparoscopic anterior resection?

My husband is 33 years old and has a 3 cm cancerous tumor in his upper rectum. He is having a laparoscopic low anterior resection (or TME) and we have been told there is a risk to sexual function (retrograde ejaculation/erectile dysfunction).

How common are these issues? Is it likely he will suffer permanent damage following this surgery?

It is slow, but he does exist if there's injury of the plexus.
