Severe middle to upper back pain?

I have severe pressure type pain in the mid to upper back on the right side. Reoccurring pain every 6 to 8 weeks and lasts for 2 days to a week. The pain has been present for years. I have had an MRI that shows nothing. The tests on the gallbladder and liver show nothing. The blood work that shows only slightly elevated white blood cells and blood tests and bone marrow biopsy ruled out cancer. The only relief is from a heating pad and putting very hard pressure on the exact spot. These things only make it tolerable and only while being used as soon as heat or pressure is gone pain is worse again.

Good evening this is Dr. Palmer. In reading your question it could be very simple in view of the fact that Franco lumbar muscles sometimes can get very tight and don’t move as flexible as they should however the thoracic spine is an area that as you get older persistent pain may spell other issues. My recommendations to follow up with your primary care doctor and perhaps kidney an MRI with him without contrast 95% of your answers will be answered through the study. I wish you all the best Dr. Pf
I also am not sure as to what this pain is caused by but the location and the fact that pressure and heat help suggests that it is musculoskeletal. I would try lying on your back for 30 minutes and see if that improves the pain. If so you can repeat that treatment. If not I would talk with your primary care physician.
