Should I get a chiropractic adjustment if my back hurts?

I have back pain and want to fix it. Should I get a chiropractic adjustment if my back hurts?

See your primary doctor first. He should be able to recommend you the next step. If you are young, it will probably resolve by itself in a couple of weeks. If you are somewhat older, arthritis of the spine may be stalking you with degeneration of discs or similar problems and/or sacroiliac joint disfunction. Do not let a chiropractor manipulate your back until you are sure there is no disc pathology that may worsen during a forced chiropractor maneuver for an adjustment. Follow an algorithm.
Hi,

I think you should be evaluated by a physiatrist or pain management physician prior to going to a chiropractor. Chiropractors are great, but they can’t fix everything and some issues can get worse with chiropractic treatment. For example, if you have a herniated disc, this can sometimes get exacerbated with chiropractic treatment.
I hope you feel better.
Before I can answer this question, I would recommend that you have a physical exam by your doctor and if required, get imaging (X-rays, MRI). If there is no serious issue, then an evaluation by a chiropractor follow by treatment would be reasonable.
Would recommend a physical therapist to adjust you and then give you exercises to keep you on alignment. One without the other isn’t very useful.
Chiropractors use manual techniques with their hands to reduce tension in back muscles and improve spinal alignment. It is important to consult with a fellowship trained, Board Certified Pain Management Physician prior to any other treatment to ensure that you are getting the most appropriate care for your condition. There are some conditions which may worsen with chiropractics. Pain that persists beyond 3-6 months is considered chronic pain. There may be an underlying cause that is treatable without pain medications.
First, consult with gp to evaluate the source of pain.
Yes, please get evaluated by your local Chiropractor. Back pain can be more mechanical (alignment of bones) versus soft tissue (muscles). To understand further, they'll ask you questions such as, "when does the pain happen and how long does it last, what makes it feel better/worse, what are your daily activities, does the pain travel anywhere or does it stay locally,". These questions will help them understand where the pain is coming from and treat accordingly. I hope this helps!
